Gantry slewing cranes are used on stockyards and loading and unloading plants for general cargo and bulk material, mainly at river harbours and seaports. The crane gantry is adapted to the site conditions and gives sufficient clearance for the combined railway/ship traffic. It is possible to combine by means of only one machine any mode of operations, i.e. operation by hook, grab, lifting beam, or container handling, that may occur during the loading/unloading process.
Gantry slewing cranes for erection and equipment work at shipyards are of special design. At comparatively high load moments it is often required to adjust the cranes to a small track gauge. This has to be considered in the ballast dimensioning.
Gantry slewing cranes can be offered with medium lifting capacities up to the range of heavy-duty cranes and with load moments up to 3,000 tm.
For materials handling cranes, the operating speeds are high and adapted to the loading and unloading output . The speeds of the erection cranes are sensitive and stepless controlled.
The supporting structures are corrosion-protected combined solid-web/latticework constructions.
